Apple announced the 14-inch M6 MacBook Pro on 27 October 2026. The M6 chip has a 12-core CPU, a 12-core GPU Apple says is up to 30% faster than M5, and a dual 16-core Neural Engine. It adds Wi-Fi 7, keeps up to 24 hours of battery, starts at $1,999 (₹2,39,900 in India) and ships 6 November.
Apple's M6 MacBook Pro is here. On 27 October Apple announced a 14-inch MacBook Pro with the new M6 chip: two more CPU cores, two more GPU cores, a doubled Neural Engine and Wi-Fi 7. The price, the design and the 24-hour battery claim stay the same. It starts at $1,999 in the US and ₹2,39,900 in India, pre-orders open today, 28 October, and it ships on Friday, 6 November.

What changed in the M6 MacBook Pro vs M5?
The new part is the chip, plus faster wireless. According to Apple and MacRumors:
- CPU: 12 cores (2 "super" cores, 4 performance, 6 efficiency), up from 10 on M5. Apple calls its top core "the world's fastest CPU core".
- GPU: 12 cores, up from 10, with a Neural Accelerator in every core. Apple claims up to 30% faster graphics and up to 25% faster AI workloads than M5.
- Neural Engine: a "Dual 16-core" design (32 cores in total), which Apple says is up to 1.9x faster than M5.
- Memory: 16GB standard, up to 32GB. Bandwidth rises from 153GB/s to 170GB/s, but MacRumors notes only the 24GB and 32GB models get the faster figure.
- Wireless: Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 through Apple's own N1 chip. It can also drive two external 4K displays at up to 165Hz, up from 144Hz.

Everything else carries over: the 14.2-inch Liquid Retina XDR display (up to 1,600 nits HDR, optional nano-texture), the 12MP Center Stage camera, six speakers, HDMI, MagSafe 3, three Thunderbolt 4 ports, an SD card slot and a headphone jack. The base model still ships with 1TB of storage. Apple dropped the 512GB version in March.
How much faster is M6 in real apps?
Apple's own app tests put M6 about 1.2x to 1.3x ahead of the M5 MacBook Pro:
- up to 1.3x faster time to first token when running a local LLM;
- up to 1.3x faster ray-traced rendering in Blender;
- up to 1.3x faster Xcode builds;
- up to 1.2x faster image processing in Affinity.
Against the M1 MacBook Pro from 2020 the jump is much bigger: Apple claims up to 13x faster LLM prompt processing, 11.7x faster Blender renders and 2.5x faster Xcode builds. These are Apple's figures. Independent reviews arrive closer to the 6 November launch, and we'll update this story when they do.

M6 MacBook Pro price and release date
- US: from $1,999, or $1,899 with education pricing. Apple Upgrade leasing starts at $38.99 a month.
- India: from ₹2,39,900, or ₹2,27,900 with education pricing (Apple India Newsroom).
- Dates: pre-order from 28 October in 35 countries and regions; in stores and with customers from 6 November.
- Colours: space black and silver.
The starting configuration is the M6 chip, 16GB of unified memory and 1TB of SSD.
Is it a touchscreen? And should you wait?
No. This 14-inch model keeps the same mini-LED screen and the same body. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has reported a separate, redesigned MacBook Pro with an OLED touchscreen, and Apple holds its "Pro and Tell" event in Los Angeles today, 28 October, at 10 a.m. PT (10:30 p.m. IST), according to Tom's Guide. Apple has not confirmed what it will show. Note too that this launch has no M6 Pro or M6 Max chip.
So who is the M6 model for?
- M1 or Intel MacBook owners: the biggest jump. You get 16GB of memory as standard, a third Thunderbolt port, up to 24 hours of battery (Apple says up to 4 more hours than M1) and much faster local AI.
- M5 owners: skip it. About 30% more graphics and Wi-Fi 7 won't change your day.
- Anyone curious about a touch Mac: wait for tonight's event before ordering. Pre-orders don't ship until 6 November anyway.
Why it matters
Apple is now pitching the base MacBook Pro as an on-device AI machine: every GPU core has a Neural Accelerator, and the headline gains are in LLM prompt processing and image generation. That fits a wider shift to running models locally for privacy and cost, the same bet Nvidia made with its 128GB RTX Spark laptops. The M6 Mac still tops out at 32GB, though, so it suits small local models, not the big ones. Apple also refreshed the iPad mini and the iMac with M6 this week.

What's next
Apple's Pro and Tell event tonight is the next step; if a touchscreen MacBook Pro is announced, we'll add it to this story. Reviews of the M6 model should land in early November, before shipping on 6 November.
